Joe Fresh Face!

Have you heard….Joe Fresh sells cosmetics now!
Being a Joe Fresh devotee—I love its cheap chic philosophy—I had to run out and check out their new beauty line.

When I entered the Joe Fresh section of my local supermarket, I was approached by a super-excited salesgirl. I asked about the new cosmetics line and she eagerly walked me over to the display. I followed and I found the cutest display of extremely reasonably priced makeup. She gave me a coupon towards the purchase of a lip product, so I HAD to search out a shade perfect for me. Cool! I found one! Since I was already there, I thought to pick up a tube of mascara as well.

Ginger Lip gloss

First things first, I love the packaging. The clear tubular casing is streamlined, chic and esthetically pleasing. It completely appeals to my minimalist sensibility.

I chose the lip gloss called ginger as it had a nice pink hue and also seemed quite appropriate for spring. This product was surprisingly very vibrant. Unlike other product lines, this lip colour was bold and rich, and actually retained its colour after applied. It came out smooth, not clumpy and easily glided on my lips. Kudos to Joe Fresh! I would buy this product again.

Volumizing and lengthening Mascara

There was only one style of mascara, so I picked it up. It was good, but not quite different from most drugstore mascaras. It went on well; however, you had to put on several coats for it to show some drama.

Bottom line, it did the trick but I would only wear it when I didn’t need a totally made up look.

The Joe Fresh line is definitely worth a try. Just like with its fashions, their cosmetics line is meant to provide their customers with items that won’t break the bank but keep you looking hot!

Happygrrl entrepreneur

Usually Christine and I write about a fascinating new person we recently became aware of, but this time around, the fab new person is me.

Okay, that sounds a little too egotistical; what I really wanted to write was that this post is about my latest hobby.

For years I’ve had the desire to learn how to make jewellery. I talked about it over and over with friends and I finally decided to take my interest to the next level and actually take a class. I signed up for a beginner jewellery making class in late summer 2008, and I learned how to create a simple beaded bracelet, a beaded necklace and a pair of dangly earrings.

Since that 3 hour workshop, I’ve become hooked on making jewellery! As soon as I come home from my j-o-b, I run to my bedroom, sit on the floor and look at all my wonderful beads and think of all the fantastic things I would like to create.

For the past couple of months I’ve made dozens of bracelets and necklaces. I started out with simple designs, and worked my way up to more intricate pieces.

I absolutely love my new hobby! I love it so much that it has become my not-so secret side project. I shamelessly promote it to all my friends, and to their friends, and so on and so on…. I also plan on showcasing them at local craft shows in the spring.

But before my jewellery is hanging off the necks of everyone you know, feel free to take a look at some of my pieces. If you would like more info, please feel free to e-mail me at michelle@happygrrls.com, or at michelledesigns08@yahoo.ca.

Thanks!

Michelle’s two cents

It’s rare for me to express my two cents about an entertainment-related matter, but I felt obliged to say something. I’m sure you’ve read about the Rihanna Chris Brown situation- he allegedly beat her up, she called the cops, and he was officially charged (not convicted) of a felony assault charge.

When I heard that Chris Brown was wanted for assaulting a female, I was shocked. When I heard that the female was Rihanna, I was stunned (BTW, Chris Brown beating up any female is inexcusable). I couldn’t believe that it was true. Then I saw the picture of her badly beaten face and I realized that she was unfortunately the victim of a very serious attack. My heart went out to her.

However, just a few weeks after the allegation was made against Chris Brown, the pair have since “reconciled” (Chris Brown’s court case is still underway) and the two have been seen together.

I don’t want to pass judgment on them, but I think that they both should consider getting counseling instead of acting like the alleged events never took place. If he in fact did beat her, he needs help, if she was beaten, she needs help. For the pair to get back together sends such a terrible conflicting message to not only their fans, but to victims of abuse. It’s not okay for someone to beat you, you didn’t “ask for it” and you don’t deserve it.

I hope that they both get the help that they need.
