The Mullet dress

the mullet hairstyle
Who would have ever thought that the words mullet and dress would go together?  But believe me, they do!

I first heard the term "mullet dress" months ago from Kelly Osbourne on the outrageously catty TV show Fashion Police. I thought it was an interesting way to describe a style of dress, but it kinda made sense.

A mullet dress or skirt is cut shorter in the front and longer in the back - named after a very tacky 80s hairstyle (think John Stamos, MacGyver, Duran Duran etc.).

A couple weeks ago I went with a friend to Winners to see if they had any new fashions in.  I saw a few dresses that I liked, but I told myself that I needed to practise some restraint and only buy one.  So I opted for a cute, sexy, clingy purple dress that would be perfect for a night out.

The Cost: $29.99
Although I was very happy with my super sexy dress, I still thought about the dress I left behind.  Should I get it? Do I need it?  After some serious contemplation, my greed won in the end and I bought the dress 3 days later.

I will admit that I have a dress quite similar to this, but I felt I needed this teal and white striped stunner as it was a little dressier than the casual one I bought at Old Navy.

I actually love that it is slightly longer in the back. I won’t unwittingly flash anyone on a windy day or when I am running up a flight of stairs. So there's a practical side to this dress. See, there was a valid reason why I bought it! LOL.

What are some of your fave summer purchases?

I whip my hair back and forth

I, like Britney, Jessica and of course Nicki Minaj, all rock, ahem....fake hair.  Yes, I said it!  Nicki dons a myriad of brightly hued wigs, while Britney, Jessica and I opt for extensions.

But as of May of this year, I have returned to my roots (so to speak) and kicked my extensions to the curb.  I was looking for a change and getting rid of my shoulder length black and caramel coloured twists was definitely the change that I was looking for.

I decided it was time to sport my God given kinky, curly, natural hair and style my own hair. For all the naturalistas out there- it can be trying at times, eh?

However, I am completely loving (and trying to get used to) the journey.  I’ve flat ironed it, braided, twisted and worn it in a pseudo afro. I.am.loving.it! I will definitely rock it natural for the remainder of the summer.  After that, I’m not too sure what I will do.  But for now, I will continue to fluff up my badass fro!

Songs of the moment- Club Edition

This summer is certainly turning out to be one of my favourites.  I’m going out more, trying new things- basically, I’m living the motto #YOLO!

I’ve never been much of a clubber, but a friend of mine has dragged me out (I mean that in the nicest possible way!), to a few lounges and clubs in the city and guess what...?  I’m hooked!  I love the music, the dancing (I have actually fist pumped like I was a cast member of Jersey Shore!).  I’ve had so much fun that I returned the favour and dragged one of my “non club” friends to a lounge to get her party on too.

Since I’ve been a permanent fixture in da club lately, there are a few songs that seem to get the crowd- and myself —boogying on the dance floor.  Here are a rundown of the club bangin’ songs.

Glad You Came, The Wanted

Don’t you feel like you’re on an exotic isle when you hear this song?  If it weren’t for the spilled drinks, and the DJ in the corner, I could swear that I was laying on a beach in Ibiza.

What Makes You Beautiful, One Direction

Okay, I have noooo idea how The Wanted and One Direction are different, but this single is a fluffy, feel-good song.  C’mon, who doesn’t feel happy when you hear the chorus, “What Makes You Beautiful”?

I love the fact that when this song comes on— EVERYBODY knows the words.  LOL!  I unashamedly get my sexy strut on when this song plays.  Such a guilty pleasure!

Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen

I know you’ve probably heard this song a million times, but dammit, it’s infectious.  It’s poppy, cute, and sweet—everything you want in a summer song. Plus Carly is a fellow Canadian.  Represent!

Somebody That I Used Yo Know – dance version, Gotye feat Kimbra

I think it’s genius that there is a dance remix to this song. No, I’m not being sarcastic—I really mean it. I completely love the original, and now there’s a version that I can dance to.  Awesome!!

Where HaveYou Been,  Rihanna

Actually, most bars/lounges/clubs play Rihanna’s entire repertoire (which makes me an incredibly happy girl!), but her latest song—Where Have You Been, is def my song of the moment.  I love the lyrics, and the sexy vibe.  This could definitely turn into my summer anthem.

The Motto, Drake

I like dance music, but I loooove hip hop and r&b.  So if Where Have You Been is my dance song of the moment, The Motto is my hip hop song of the moment.   I love the sick beat and the utter bravado this song exudes.  Although Drake is at his cockiest on this single, I still love it.

What songs get you moving in the club?  Let me know!
