Sexy Lips

Beauty 411

I’m no wallflower, but I’m not as flirtatious as I should be. Sometimes I need to be a little more adventurous to catch a suitor’s eye. Being a single grrl ready to enter the dating arena, I decided to upgrade my look. The first thing I thought to do was purchase a new lip gloss. Okay, it wasn’t only to sexify my look—I recently bought a lower priced lip gloss that was all right, but it lacked the drama that I was looking for (e-mail me and I’ll let you know which brand it was!).

I decided to hit the beauty counter and try something a little more upscale. The Smashbox counter was my first stop. I’ve never tried their lip products before, and I was curious to see if it was in fact better than the cheaper priced lip gloss that I had just purchased.

My eyes zoomed in on a lip gloss called Coy from the Wicked Lovely collection. Loved the name! I asked to try it and the Beauty Consultant politely gave me a sample. She took a quick glimpse at my lips and told me it looked nice. I told her that I needed to walk around to see what it looked like in different lighting. Yessss, I’m picky! Okay, it passed the test. It looked fabulous! The colour was rich; and it made my lips look moist and ready to be kissed! Suffice it to say, I bought it.

I can’t wait to wear it on a hot date. Wish me luck!

From MuchMusic to ET Canada

I was watching MuchMusic the other day and I started to think about the VJs that have come and gone. Remember Rick “The Temp?” No disrespect to the new VJs, but there was something about Rick’s boyish charm that always got me.
Well our boy is all grown up! After leaving MuchMusic a couple of years ago, Rick landed a job at ET Canada (think Entertainment Tonight featuring Canadian celebs) and has been flexing his serious interviewing muscles ever since.
Being the inquisitive sista that I am, I wanted to know more about our fave ex-VJ. Here’s what he had to say!
What was the transition like for you working as a VJ to working as an Entertainment Reporter for ET Canada?
The transition was pretty simple. I love interviewing people and that’s basically what I did at Much Music and do at ET Canada.
What did you learn from being a VJ that helped you with your current job?
The whole television world in general! I'm a Phys-Ed grad so I didn't know a lot about TV until MuchMusic and am still learning everyday at ET Canada. My interviewing skills were developed and my delivery and confidence in front of a camera started at MM.
What was it like leaving Much Music after working there for 10 years?
Leaving after 10 years was the toughest thing I had to do! It was my first job after university and it was truly a family atmosphere there! I got a little teary-eyed during my last Much On Demand show.
Tell me something that most people don’t know about you?
I love old classic black and white movies! I would have loved to be around in the old Hollywood days with Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable.
Do you keep in touch with the Much Music VJs?
Yes, I still hang out with the VJ's - past and present! I played soccer with Master T just a few weeks ago, had dinner with George Stroumboulopoulos the other night, spent some time with Devon Soltendieck at Ultra and hung out at Muzik night club with Matte Babel just last night!

Rachel and I e-mail each other from time to time and I see her and Amanda on occasion when I travel to LA for work.
Who was your fave celebrity to interview?
My fave celebs so far... George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Henry Winkler, Tony Bennett, Patrick Dempsey, Quentin Tarantino, Vivica A Fox, Uma Thurman, Rachel Mcadams... You didn't think I was just going to give you one did you!?
What celebrity would you love to interview?
Eddie Veder, Michael Jackson, Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, Jim Carey, and of course, a sit down with Madonna.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment so far hands down is my son Noah!

My fave new artist: Jazmine Sullivan

I really need to thank my brother for downloading Jazmine Sullivan’s single, Need U Bad, a few weeks ago. I unexpectedly came across the song when I was listening to my iPod. I heard it again when I watched the Top 10 countdown on 106 and Park. There was something about this track that stayed in my head.
I love how Jazmine has brilliantly captured the passion and desire that you feel when you’re totally in love with someone and the hurt and disappointment that you feel when you know that you've hurt them.
On this track Jazmine blends reggae and R&B to create a steamy, sexy, summer single. Not only have I been playing this song 24/7 since hearing it, I’ve become her latest fan.
On a pretty boring morning at work, I decided to send an e-mail to Jazmine’s people requesting an interview. I will be honest; I sent the e-mail on a whim. I wanted to see if anyone would respond. Shockingly, I received an e-mail in my inbox a few short hours later. I was told that Jazmine would love to be interviewed for happygrrls.com. After jumping up and down and trying REALLY hard to compose myself, I replied and said that I would be free to conduct the interview later that afternoon. How lucky am I?
I ran home, created a list of questions and patiently waited for the call.
Here’s a snippet of our short but sweet interview! Enjoy!
Did you always want to be a singer?
Yes, I always knew. It’s what I feel I was supposed to do. I started singing in church when I was five, but I took it seriously by age 12. I decided that I wanted to be an R&B artist. My parents were very supportive of me.
How does it feel to have a hit song?
It feels great!!! I put my heart and soul into it. I’m very proud of the record. It’s very different from anything on the radio.
How did you come up with the reggae vibe for the single?
Missy presented the track to me. I’ve never sung over a reggae beat before, but it felt right. It definitely catches people’s ears.
How did you get Pepa to be a part of the song?
She is a friend of Missy and she was chillin’ in the studio. Pepa is Jamaican… so it just worked for the song.
How would you describe your album?
It’s colourful. No single song sounds like the next. There is something on the album for everybody!
Who are your fave artists?
Mary J. Blige, Keyshia Cole, Beyoncé
Who would you like to work with?
Mary. J Blige, Andre 3000, Coldplay, Maroon 5. I love jazz, R&B, reggae… I want to work with people you wouldn’t expect. I’m a fan of music.
Do you have plans to do some shows in Toronto?
I don’t have anything planned as of yet, but I would love to come!

So that was just a taste of what Jazmine is all about. Check out her video if you're still craving more!
until the next entry,

Michelle
