App of the Month: Scrabble Blast

I love words. I am a self-proclaimed word geek.  I love words so much that I am actually jealous of elementary kids that compete in spelling bees. Okay, not really, but I do enjoy anything related to words, language and spelling. #geekygirl

Okay, enough of my nerdiness, I need to get back to the matter at hand.  After careful consideration and reviewing all my word related apps, my app of the month is.….Scrabble Blast.

I love this addictive app.  I can literally spend hours playing this game.  *slowly blushing at my geekiness*

The premise of the game is that you must use the letters from the game board to create words—much like scrabble.  Keep in mind that the letters on the game board move once you spell a word, so you should try to create words as quickly as possible.  (psst…it’s very similar to the game Book Worm)

Also, in “blast mode” the game lasts for 90 seconds, so you need to come up with a bunch of words in that time frame to get a high score.  I love that extra bit of challenge!

I usually play this game when I am travelling on the bus or when I need to kill time.

What’s your favourite game to play on your phone?

Socacize- get your workout on.....Island style!

Are you like me and in slight panic mode cuz your body ain’t ready for summer? Okay, I'm not too stressed (#lovingmycurves), but I am looking for a fun workout.

I recently heard about Socacize – an energetic dance/workout that will melt unwanted pounds and have your  body looking fierce!

I reached out to Ayanna Lee-Rivears, the Trinidad and Tobago native (big up Trinidad!) and founder of Socacize, and asked her to provide me with more deets on this fun way to workout.

What is Socacize?

Socacize Fitness is a creative blend of high/low impact aerobics and African and indigenous Caribbean dance movements performed to Calypso, Soca, Zouk, Reggae music, and on occasion drums. Socacize includes cardio, weight training, toning, tightening drills and combos to help you tone those troubled spots—arms, abs, legs and butt!

What prompted you to start the Socacize workout?

I have been performing Caribbean dance over 15 years and I thought it would be fun to introduce the dance styles to the general public to promote a fun, simple and healthy lifestyle!

How long do the classes run?

Regular classes run year round, bootcamp classes run 6 - 8 weeks.

What is the socacize bootcamp like?

The Socacize Fitness Inc.® Bootcamp program is a high intensity 2-hour and fun workout attracting over 100 revellers, masqueraders and party people.

Participants can choose to purchase an 8-week pass giving them access to any of the three bootcamp locations, or they can simply pay-as-they-go at the door. Participants can burn up to 1000 calories a class!

The bootcamp environment is like none other! Featuring the musical genius of globally and nationally recognized DJs, more than 100 hundred participants are led through a body busting Caribbean style- workout.  Rhythms to make you dance, fitness routines to build stamina, tone muscle, lose inches and boost confidence!

Where are the classes offered?

We have more than 100 Socacize Fitness Instructors located across Canada and the United States of America.  Click here to find a location near you.

Can anyone take a class?

Yes!

Will I ever shop at Joe Fresh again?

I have asked myself this question numerous times following the tragedy in Bangladesh.

If you follow my blog, or if you know me, I am a HUGE Joe Fresh shopper.I’ve bought everything from dresses, jackets, cosmetics and pyjamas.  I love that the clothing is chic, cheap, and very wearable.

After hearing about the tragic building collapse in Bangladesh where hundreds of textile workers perished making clothes for major companies like Joe Fresh, I needed to think long and hard to see if I could continue to support them.

I decided that I would still support them. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I liked and appreciated that they have come forward and addressed the catastrophe as well as devised ways that they can provide safe working conditions going forward. Loblaws, the owner of Joe Fresh, has created a relief fund for victims and families to provide support now and in the future.

Some might say that it is a little too late, but at least they are being held accountable for their actions. Honestly, I hope and pray that they stick to their word. Only time will tell.
